Group Therapy

The group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the dynamics of human relationships in order to address and manage the issues that trouble the individual in his interaction with others. Group therapy aims to provide a safe, convenient environment in which the individual may share and express his personal concerns and anxieties, forbidden thoughts and feelings in order to develop new forms of relations with respect to him and others. In addition, the group can be a meaningful and an important source of support and strength in difficult periods during which a member experiences intense stress and emotional impasse.
In the group the individual revives the most basic experiences of the relationships in his childhood through new communication networks and new ways of relation. In other words, often in the group, the members “meet” in a symbolic way people of the past, or their current life, with whom they are haning a hard time or difficulty, but would like to be able to negotiate about it effectively.
Individuals participating in the group have much more in common than they already know. They realize that there are other people who feel the same as them, and finally feel relieved because they see that they are not alone and helpless on the problem that concerns them.
The feedback received by a person in the group of the reactions and the response of other members on their issues “opens” during the healing process and can help him to change the perspective he sees things and / or adopt more creative and effective attitudes towards his problems.
A therapeutic group is consisted of adults of all ages, regardless of gender, who want to work out the issues concerning the past or the “here and now”, or those who pursue their own self-improvement, self-awareness and self-development.
Usually, the group includes one therapist (and sometimes a co-therapist) and consists of five to twelve members. Group members meet once a week at the therapist’s place and each session lasts 90 minutes.
